Bill Witte, CEO of THW Design in Atlanta, Georgia is the creator of the Vital Life Community Concept. The principals at THW Design chose to have a purpose driven firm and as such, they wanted to make Vital Life open to the public. Vital Life is a not-for-profit NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) that serves to connect those in the Senior Living Industry with not only each other, but also with experts in health and wellness. Additionally, THW Design wanted to create a platform for individuals to educate themselves on aging and life choices, so that they are able to make informed decisions, and not rely on others to tell them what they should do.
Many Continuing Care Retirement Communities are not-for-profit and depend upon small margins. They have little assets and are not able to implement large scale Vital Life architecture, but Bill Witte and the other board members at THW Design wanted these communities to benefit from Vital Life´s programs and public doctrine. The ability to network with others who are willing to teach what they have learned may serve as a springboard for new ideas nation wide. With any community or individual having access to the Vital Nation Network, anyone interested can see what is being done to break the mold of current expectations of senior living.
Bill Witte hosted the 1970´s PBS Television program "The Power Switch." This show was the springboard for Vital Life- as Bill was constantly investigating the best ways to:
- Utilize alternate energy sources such as passive solar housing
- Advocate healthy living (such as growing one’s own sprouts!)
- Community living – the advantages of successful communities
